Android On The HP TouchPad!

Android On The HP TouchPad! pictures

This has been a good week. Yesterday I used my telescope for the first time (which actually I’m probably going to go use again after I type this description) and today Android was “officially” “unofficially” released by the CyanogenMod guys for the HP TouchPad!

In August TONS of people bought up the touchpads from HP at a HUGE discount since they were discontinuing them a month after it was released many (like myself) in hopes that android would be ported over. Today a very alpha but mostly working version has been released! If you are interested in trying it out do fully read the instructions before trying it and be aware you may brick your touchpad but the actual install procedure is actually quite easy.

ALPHA CyanogenMod 7 for the HP Touchpad :: V7.1.0 Alpha (13 Oct 2011) – Lower your expectations!

CyanogenMod is a free community built aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.

CyanogenMod is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. CyanogenMod does still include various hardware-specific code which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.

Instructions:

First time flashing CyanogenMod 7 to the HP Touchpad or coming from another ROM?

Read the README!
Re-read the README!
Flash CyanogenMod.
Optional: Install the Google Apps addon package.

Upgrading from earlier version of CyanogenMod 7?

Perform a NANDroid backup of your current ROM.
Flash CyanogenMod (your Google Apps will be backed up restored automatically).

Here is a helpful list of features that are near-completion. Thanks to DarkRedFlame for compiling this.

* Booting into Android
* ADB commands via ADB
* Power back/home and volume button layout
* Touchscreen support (Multi-touch 10 fingers)
* GPU Acceleration (2D Acceleration doesn’t work but not a release blocker)
* Dual core processing
* Bluetooth
* Sound
* Accelerometer
* Power Management
* Battery Reporting
* Camera(only video chat no recording or snapshots)
* Vibration
* Backlight
* LED
* Multiboot (via moboot)

* Light Sensor(need to check “Enable Light Decrease” in cyanogenmod settings- display- automatic backlight
* Accessing webOS files from Android and vice versa
* Touchstone Support

* And much much more!

As far as what *doesn’t* work that list is probably too long for a FAQ.
