New York -- Movin on up
As most know I've been living down in Virginia for a year and a half now. I moved down here July 2004 for a job with The Digital Realm, and then in September 2004 when that didn't work out I moved on to Verint, also based in Virginia. I started out in an apartment in Alexandria and moved in with hypervoid in Fairfax almost a year ago to cut costs on rent. When we leased here we knew they were probably going to turn the place over to condos and we would only be able to stay here a year and sure enough, thats what happened. So, my lease was due to end at the end of December, and I was all ready to move to another apartment in Fairfax when Monday the 5th rolls around. I get a call from my boss in the afternoon asking how my apartment search was coming, and then when I told him I hadn't signed a lease yet, how I felt about moving to New York. He told me that they were looking to hire some more people in their tier two department up there and he thought I'd be a good canidate. I told him Monday I'd think about it a bit and get back to him. Wednesday the 7th I flew up to NY to meet with the person who would then be my manager and some of the other guys I'd be working with. Everything seemed cool but of course I couldn't make a decision until I got some sort of figure on what the raise would be as the cost of living in NY is quite a bit higher then in Northen Virginia. I fly back Wednesday night and Thursday the 8th I get a call saying that they do want to offer me the position and they give me a dollar figure. I tell my manager-to-be that I'll have to think about it and play around with the numbers a bit, trying to figure out exactly what the cost of living WOULD be and I'd get back to him by Monday. So I do exactly that. I scoured apartment sites looking at prices and by Sunday night I come up with a counter offer request and submit it to the NY office. Wednesday the 14th they get back to me with a counter-counter offer (or whatever it would be called) that is very close to what I requested. I think about it for another day, request to get the offer in writing on Thursday, and Friday I accept! So that’s the long winded explanation of the title of this entry. =] I'm going to be moving to Long Island, NY at the end of the month (still have to find a place to live!!!!), continue with Verint, and receive a nice promotion. =] Posted by Urgo at 12:25 PM

Updates FINALLY!
Well, it sure has been a while since my last update, almost three full months, a new and not to be proud of record. I’ve been wanting to update for a while now, but when push came to shove I had other things I needed to do instead, or just didn’t really feel in the mood. Anyway, I figured today was as good of day as any for an update since it is in fact my 25th birthday. No longer will rental car companies harass me, something that they really didn’t start doing until last month. Budget by the LGA airport in NY wanted to charge me the normal rental fee PLUS $115/day for being under 25. On a separate trip I rented from Hertz and they wanted to charge $35/day extra. Not too bad, but when I got the bill back they had charged about $105/day extra. After talking to four managers I was able to get them to honor the price they quotes to me originally of $35 extra. Okay got the rant for the post out of the way. =] Now another item of business. I have posted three new albums in my gallery for different things I’ve done since Sept. In September I met up with Big Dan & Phluid at the Maryland Renaissance Festival. In November my mother and I checked out Vegas and the surrounding areas including the Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon. And lastly, in November after fighting the car companies I visited Jeff, Russ, and Brett in New York City. Well not much text for this update I guess, but enjoy my birthday present to all of you, the pictures. Be sure to check out the video files from the Bellagio Fountain as they are just amazing. It’s one of those things that literally make you go “woh” when you see it live for the first time. Next post will be before my next birthday, I promise. =] Posted by Urgo at 12:08 AM
