If you aren’t familiar with the fitbit it’s basically an internet connected pedometer on steroids. During the day it counts how many steps you take it lets you track activities such as the treadmill at the gym separately too and in the new version they just came out with it even tracks how many flights of stairs you’ve climbed. When you’re sleeping you wear it on your wrist and it tracks how well you sleep at night.

All of this information is transmitted wirelessly back to fitbit.com where you get some really awesome graphs and statistics of your activity to help becoming more fit or just a record for you too look at for fun. One of the statistics it gives you is exactly how many calories you burned during the day so if you enter in the food you’ve eaten you can watch the two graphs calories consumed and calories burned and as long as you eat less then you burn you’re losing weight!

I really do love this device and I’m so happy Fitbit teamed up with me so I can run “Fitbit February” or Fitruary. My own personal goal for this month is to complete the recommended 10000 steps a day or at least on average and I challenge you all to do that as well. I also challenge you to make a video response to this video answering one or more of the three suggested video topics and I’ll be picking at least one of you to get a free fitbit ultra just like this!

Nexus Smorgasbord (Galaxy Nexus Update Mail and Contest Teaser)

Just a couple of quick updates today. First off thanks to Jacob on Google Plus I *might* have fixed or at least improved the battery situation I was having in the video I did on that last week http://www.youtube.com/watch?vSMpSoFYWRU The solution might be as simple as disabling google talk! We shall see but things look good so far!

Also I finally made it to the PO box again (actually I had gone a week or so ago and collected a few things but hadn’t gotten around to making the video yet) so big shout out to everyone who sent things in!

Lastly stay tuned for a new video this Wednesday. I’ll be doing a new contest that will be running throughout February and I’m really excited about it!

Galaxy Nexus Review By Someone Who Actually Uses It

After a month of promising to review the Galaxy Nexus here you finally go! Even though I spend a lot of time in this video talking about the bad things about the phone most of them will probably be solved by software updates coming soon. Overall I really do love this phone and recommend it!

DIE SOPA PIPA DIE! – Stop Internet Censorship!

Unless you live under a rock or are not in the US (or live under a rock and are not in the US) you’ve probably heard of SOPA or PIPA by now. If you haven’t basically it gives media companies the power to basically censor the internet with very little judicial oversight if any.

If you are over 18 I highly recommend you find out who your congressmen are and contact them to stop this and/or make sure to vote against them if they vote for sopa. A good site for this information is http://sopatrack.com . If you’re under 18 talk to your parents.

Flying on the Ground – Park City Utah Skiing

As you may have seen in my preview video I’m currently in Utah and this weekend I went skiing here! Even though I grew up in MA another place that skiing is common I never actually skied until a few years ago so this was only my 4th time but I had a lot of fun!

Believe it or not but I only fell down twice! The first time was on my first time down the hill where the rental boots I had were WAY too tight. I was literally in pain and screwed up a slow down maneuver. After I switched the boots for a size bigger I felt great and didn’t fall again until almost the last run when someone else wiped out in front of me.

Park City Utah where I was is pretty well known for their great ski conditions however this year they’ve been cursed with an extreme lack of real snow so most of the snow I was on was man made. Fortunately/unfortunately for me I’ve only been skiing in pre or post season in the past so I was used to these bad conditions. Even with that though I had a lot of fun!

Ready Player One Review – Awesome! @erniecline @wilw

In a video I did last week I mentioned a book called Ready Player One that was I “reading” and today since I finished it I thought I’d give you guys a bit of a review. Ready Player One is AWESOME! What you want more? Okay.

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline read by Wil Wheaton in the audiobook version I listened to is sort of a cyber punk version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The story starts off when the creator of the world’s most popular video game.. which is really more then a video game its the world that humanity basically lives in dies. Instead of leaving his vast fortune to specific person he has created a contest where the winner the person who found an easter egg he has hidden in the OASIS video game will sort of take over all his wealth and have the keys to the castle if you will.

The story follows 5 main ‘gunters’ those who dedicate their lives to the hunt for the egg as they try to beat the evil corporation Innovative Online Industries (IOI) in finding it. Along it there are countless references to pop culture specifically from the 80s but also many other decades as well as the heroes play old video games old movies music and much more.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys scifi or who grew up on old video games. It has as I mentioned earlier a sort of theme feel to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory but also takes place in a Snow Crash/Matrix like metaverse. If you consider yourself a geek as I do you’ll surely enjoy this.

Retro Gaming FTW!

A year and a half ago I bought an old apple iie off ebay since it was the first computer I ever used and pretty much started me off on the path I’m on today. Back when I did that I had meant to buy a whole bunch of old games off ebay as well (and probably still will at some point) but today I ran across an awesome website that lets me get access to them immediately! Basically it takes advantage of the tape port on the back of the Apple iie computer and I play in the audio of the game data and walla old games! Pretty freaking cool if you ask me
